They don't JUST analyse data - they also propose solutions. they also have some sort of programming under their belt..Data Analysis covers a BROAD spectrum of fields.. from banking to IT to healthcare. 1. Know how to MANAGE data - of any kind.. or MANAGE work FLOW.. (look at your personal life as an example). 2. Know what data needs to be analyzed and what the solution is 2. Know how to design and implement a plan to reach the solution.. sometimes this involves doing your own SQL statements, working in Access, Excel, even proprietary software. Thats the jist of what those that are in those positions do.. to get INTO the field my own personal recommendation (i'm not a data analyst) would be to get a degree in Business management or Project management - take classes specific to SQL and enter the job field in an entry job such as Customer Service/Data Entry clerk - then move up from there. Medium - large companies will generall (not always) hire from within. These companies may encourage you to cross train or sit in with their Data Analyst and you can then get a 'career path' going. Or you can contact a large company and talk to their HR regarding it.. see what happens. check Monster or other job sites to see what skill sets are being asked for - what degrees/certis are required... (thats probably the best course of action really) (College recruiters IMO are worthless in this regard becaue they 95% of the time are going off what their 'survey' says). Good luck. |
